Hamilton Rotary Club Supports Summer Cooling Program
BUTLER COUNTY- Thanks to a $2,500 donation from the Hamilton Rotary Club, thirty-one air conditioning units and ten fans are available for the elderly residents of the Hamilton area as part of Supports to Encourage Low-income Families (SELF) Summer Crisis Cooling Program which began July 1, 2008.
Due to the high winter demands of the Home Energy Assistance Program, funds for the Summer Crisis Cooling Program were limited and the budget did not allow for air conditioning units.
“The Hamilton Rotary Club’s generous donation has supplied SELF with the resources to provide 41 households with relief from dangerously high temperatures,” said Jeffrey Diver, executive director of SELF “With temperatures well into ninety degrees last week, this donation could not have come at a better time.”
The Wal-Mart store on Princeton Road in Fairfield Township donated the ten fans for SELF.
Because there are a limited amount of air conditioners and fans available in comparison to passed years, Hamilton area seniors ages 60 or older residents with medical proof of need may qualify to receive a unit. Appointments are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. To make an appointment in Hamilton, call 868-9300.
Residents of Butler County may also be eligible for utility assistance as part of SELF’s Summer Crisis Cooling Program. For more details, please contact SELF’s Hamilton office at 868-9300.
